1. How do I sign up and prepare to play in the league?

Step 1: Register to Play

  • Complete the online player registration form as a free agent and join your season (Spring, Summer or Fall)
  • You'll receive your team assignment and game schedule through email about 1 week before the season begins

Step 2: Learn the League Basics

  • Review the Rules in this FAQ
  • Login to TeamLink to contact your team
  • Join your team’s group chat if applicable
  • New to ball hockey? Watch highlight videos or practice basic stickhandling

Step 3: Get Your Gear Ready

Required Equipment:

  • Hockey stick
  • Hockey gloves
  • Helmet with cage or visor
  • Non-marking sneakers or athletic shoes

Step 4: Game Day Readiness

  • Check the schedule to know your team's weekly game time (Sundays between 8-10pm)
  • Check-in at the front desk station and sign the Skate Station waiver
  • Arrive at least 30 minutes early to stretch, prepare and receive your team pinnie/jersey


Step 5: Post-Game

  • Exit the arena through the front entrance​​​​​​​
  • Retrieve any belongings left in the facility. The league is not responsible for lost items
  • Check the schedule for your next game!


2. Who can play?

Any gentleman 18+ and medically able to participate. All experience levels are welcome - rookies to veterans. If joining SBHL with a friend, we'll try our best to get you both on the same team. A signed waiver, online player registration and ID are required before you can play.



3. Is the league competitive?

SBHL is a recreational league of mixed free agents. Just like a fun game of street hockey is a mixed bag of neighbors, so is this league just with the wider community. Competition levels vary by season and skill level of participants. Team assignments are balanced to create fair, competitive games. Stats are not recorded - most importantly play safe and have fun!

4. What are gameplay tips for new players?

General Tips for Gameplay:

  • Get open! Use your space, don't cluster up
  • Move the ball - pass, pass, pass to create plays
  • Ricochet passes off the walls to get around defenders
  • Always leave 1-2 defenders on your side of the court to defend
  • When playing behind the opposing net, fake directions to trick their goalie
  • During offensive drives, pass it back to the last guy advancing for an open shot!



5. When and where are games played?*

Check the schedule weekly for your team's weekly game time here. Your exact weekly game start time is based on your team assignment and viewable in the schedule.

6. Is there a space for spectators to watch?

Yes! Spectators can enjoy the view from inside the building



7. Is there Parking?

Yes. Free parking is available in the lot at Skate Station Mandarin and on nearby streets.


8. What equipment is required?

Required Gear for All Players:

  • Hockey stick (sample)
  • Hockey gloves (sample)
  • Helmet with cage or visor (sample)
  • Non-marking sneakers

  • Goalie pants
  • Helmet

GOALIE NOTE: 
If you don't have your own  gear - we have up to 4 goalie gear sets we can loan out to goalies before games!

9. What are the team names?

Division A1:

  • Blue Surfs

Division A2:

Additional teams and divisions may expand or reduce in future seasons.



10. How are seasons structured?

Each season runs for 10 weeks, featuring:

  • 8 regular season games
  • 2 playoff weeks (4 teams, single elimination)

Playoff Format:

  • Week 9: Semifinals
  • Week 10: Championship Game + potential consolation match
  • Champions receive a team trophy for pictures and bragging rights

  • Registration: March
  • Games: April 26 - June 28

SEASON ROSTERS ARE CAPPED AT 120 PLAYERS MAX. (8 teams of 15 players broken into 2 divisions of 4 teams each)
Additional players will be put on a waiting list.




11. What is your pricing?

Pricing:
Free agent pricing is found on the registration page. Prices are subject to change.



Team Pricing:
Bringing a full team of 7-15 players at once? Please contact us to see if there can be a custom rate tailored to your squad. Pricing adjustments may be available based on team size, registration timing, or other considerations. You are welcome to organize your own team name and jerseys for your players to wear.



Joining Mid-Season?
If you are joining the league mid-season, please register on the website at a prorated rate. You will be rosterd to a team assignment and be welcomed to play in the remaining games left in the season. (Note: we do not allow drop ins as it skews the competition)



12. What is your refund policy?

All sales are final. Seabrook Ball Hockey LLC has a strict NO REFUND policy and no refunds (partial or full) will be issued under any circumstance.



13. What are the rules and regulations?

1. Game Format

  • Up to 5-on-5 + goalie (6 players on the floor per team)
  • Three 12-minute periods (running time) with 3 minutes rest between periods or two 22-minute halves
  • Teams switch sides after each period
  • Face-offs at start of each period and after every goal
  • Overtime: Shootout (3 shooters/team alternating shots). Ball must be in forward motion
  • Teams not ready within 10 minutes of game time = forfeit (scored 5-0)
  • Minimum 3 players/team required to start game (or forfeit)
  • Maximum roster size per team: 15 players

2. Roster & Eligibility

  • Men must be 18+ and medically able to play
  • Rosters: 7-15 players per team
  • All players must complete online player registration, sign waiver, and submit ID at check-in
  • All players must have the required equipment

3. Equipment Rules

Required Gear:

  • Footwear: Sneakers only - no cleats, turf shoes, or skates
  • Sticks: Hockey Stick
  • Gloves: Hockey Gloves
  • Ball: Geforce liquid filled, Knapper, or Mylec (provided by league)
  • Helmet: Required with cage or visor
  • Goalies: Must wear full protective gear (helmet, chest protector, glove, blocker, goalie pants, leg pads, cup)

Recommended Gear:

  • Shin guards
  • Athletic cup/jock
  • Ball hockey shoes
  • Elbow Pads
  • Padded Shirt



4. Gameplay Rules

  • Face-offs: Start each period and after goals.
  • Face-offs: Centers start with "B-H-L" by hitting sticks against each other 3 times saying "B", "H", "L". Immediately after "L" ball is live.
  • Crease Rule: Offensive players cannot stand in the crease
  • Icing Allowed: The ball can be passed/cleared out anywhere
  • No Offsides: Players are free to position anywhere
  • High Sticking: Stick must stay below the waist when playing the ball
  • Body Contact: No checking. Incidental contact allowed. Aggressive contact = penalty
  • Slapshots: Permitted only when shooting lanes are clear. Please control your shots.
  • Hand Ball: High balls can be stopped by hand but must be dropped immediately at player's feet
  • Kick Ball: Kicking ball is permitted to advance, but you can't kick opponent sticks or score

5. Play Stoppages (Non-Penalties)

  • High Sticking: Whistle; opposing team gets possession at the infraction spot
  • Ball Out of Play: Last-touch rule; ball awarded to opponent. Restart at location.
  • Goalie Freeze: Opposing team gives 2 meters, restart from goalie zone
  • Goals: Face-off at center court

6. Penalties

  • Minor Penalty: 1 minute off (power play for opposing team)
  • Major Penalty: 3 minutes off and possible ejection
  • 2 Penalties/Game: Player may be ejected from that game
  • 2+ Player Ejections: Team forfeits that match

Examples of Penalized Infractions:

  • Body Checking
  • Interference
  • Charging
  • Elbowing
  • Slashing
  • Tripping
  • Holding
  • Cross-checking
  • Fighting (immediate ejection + possible suspension)



7. Sportsmanship & Conduct:

Good Sportsmanship is expected.

  • Respect Referees: Arguing = unsportsmanlike penalty (3 minutes)
  • Zero Tolerance: No fighting, harassment, or abusive behavior
  • Substance-Free Zone: No drugs or alcohol
  • Goal: Build community, not conflict - play clean and have fun!



8. Cancellations & Weather

  • Games are played unless severe weather or emergencies occurs
  • Cancelletions will be communicated via email at least 2 hours before game time
  • Make-up Games may be scheduled by league discretion which may be at a different day of week and time
